Does a respiratory tract infection in a puppy go away by itself?

I found that it was similar to a human cold.
yesterday my puppy had a light cough. i think it was because we took him to the dog park adn there were about 20 dogs he interacted with which he may have caught it from.
so i went to the vet for a general check up and they said hes probably coughing because he might have a respiratory tract infection and gave me antibiotics. how bad is this illness? he was coughing and twitching earlier for like 5 mins. then he fell asleep for the past 3 hours. now he just woke up and is twitching/coughing again. i feel so bad and it breaks my heart that hes going through it. it sounds like a baby that drank milk too fast and gagged.

poor guy.
it could be kennel cough. hes just 10 weeks and i feel as though him being sick for 2 weeks would be so frightneing for him, and myself. i try to get him to drink but he doesnt drink alot. i literally had to raise the bowl of water to his mouth for him to take 2 licks.

careful it can turn into bronchitics my boxer had an upper respiratory infection that turned into bronchitis i took her to the vet and he gave an antibiotic they will cough shake throw up run a fever just like a human it can be deadly if not treated so please take care of him :-)

Sounds like Kennel Cough. It sounds worse than it is but good you went to the vet already and got antibiotics. Dogs do not get colds so any time a dog shows signs like this, it is best to get them to the vets. It will take about 2 weeks to go away fully. Keep them away from other dogs that you may have in the house as it is very contagious to other dogs.

Poor little tad. Make sure they have fresh water constantly and encourage them to drink. Let them sleep when they want. Like us, they sleep alot more when ill.

I would get a second opinion from a different vet it sounds like kennel cough to me. A suggestion for when he gets better is to get him the bordatella immunization which protects against kennel cough and other respiratory illnesses especially if he interacts with other dogs. It sounds like he has kennel cough to me but you won't know unless you talk to another vet about it.
