I've just been looking back at previous oscar winners and was surprised at some winners and big ommission.
For example Braveheart winning best picture!
Any films/actors whom you feel were undeserving or robbed at oscars?

There was a rumour that when Marisa Tomei won Best Actress in the early 90's the presenter actually read out the wrong name, and they were all too embarrassed to correct their mistake. Not true, I'm sure...

Gladiator (2000), Shakespeare in Love (1998) and Titanic (1997) winning best picture awarRAB.

Alfred hitchcock not having won an Oscar while Mel Gibson won Best Director award for Braveheart (1995).

I will always think The Color Purple should have won numerous oscars.

I also thought Judi Dench should of won for Mrs Brown. Although Helen Hunt was very good.

Julia Roberts winning the oscar in 2000 was a complete travesty, It should have been Ellen Burstyn for her outstanding performance in Requiem For A Dream

Totally agree! All julia roberts did in that film was ?>...........urmmm nothing!

And what was that film about the pilot with amnesia that lasted for 40 hours- Jeez that has to be the worst film ever to win

Totally agree, saw her win the oscar, and then watched the movie and was gobsmacked that her wooden performance merited that years highest accolade -

i mean it was a perfectly enjoyable movie and she was fine in it but really, oscar-worthy?

i'd have to see what performances she was up against but i'm sure someone else would have been more worthy of the statuette.

EDIT: GWYNETH PALTROW in "Shakespeare in Love"' beat:
Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth", Fernanda Montenegro in "Central Station", Meryl Streep in "One True Thing", Emily Watson in "Hilary and Jackie"

surprised Cate didn't win, Emily Watson also blinking excellent.

Gywneth Paltrow was the weakest out of those 5 nominated

I think the oscar that year should have gone to Emily Watson for Hilary and Jackie, she was was fantastic
