Oil pressue gauge suddenly got erratic, and now spends most of the time on zero, but comes alive once in a while. Engine definitely has pressure, no lifter noise, etc.

Found pressure sender, disconnected wire.
Wire has 2 contacts. Tried shorting them together, gauge did not move. Shorted each to ground, gauge still did not move. Suggests either bad gauge or wiring between sender & gauge.

Although this test would work on certain makes/models, I'm not sure if it's valid for this Dodge.

Shop wants $150 to replace the sending unit, but wonder if anyone has a better idea before I fork for that... Thanks.
Sender is in extremely awkward location. I could barely get my hand to it to try what I did. Estimate was for 1 hour labor @$93, plus $30 for the part. Plus tax, etc. I assume.

The real test is to take out the sender and put in a mechanical gauge to read. But if you don't have one, just replace it (they just screw out and in). They're pretty cheap.
