My 96 dodge ram 2500 5.9L did something strange today and i was hoping someone can help with might be wrong. When i started the engine today after work, it ran for a second and them it reved up very high and would not stop reving so i had to turn off the key. I then started the engine again and it ran ok nut then as i was driving about 20 seconds it stared to run very rough , no power an then started knocking sound. I turned off the truck again and then turned it back on and it was still knocking but not very loud and then after about 1 inute , it stopped knocking. The oil gauge was fine where it always is. It still has not much power and runs rough. I had it towed to a shop and then i started it again and it runs fine with lots of power but now i see coolant leaking from behind the timing chain cover. Why would it al of the sudden be leaking coolant real bad?? Does anyone have an idea whats going on with this dodge ram. i check the oil it looks great, no white color. The shop is going to look at the truck and try to find out what happened. Any ideas ????

on the coolant problem those gave problems with the timing cover leaking in the upper corners of the cover from the gasket,on the running part the throttle position sensor will cause that too happen to it,i fixed a 95 model a few months ago that was leaking from the timing cover gasket, that was a common problem in the older 5.2 and 5.9 engines.when you pull it down to replace it be sure and check the timing chain and gears and if it needs them ,put them in while you got it tore down, the knocking noise could have came from the timign gears in it ,the shop should b able to find the problem with it,good luck with it.
