Dodge Neon Srt-4 engine work with an automatic transmission?

I would like to know would a Dodge Neon SRT-4 engine work with an automatic transmission.I was told by another mechanic that it will work.I bought a 2002 Dodge Neon basic model just the body and its in good condition from the Junkyard.Do I need to buy a high performance automatic transmission for this engine.I have the Dodge Neon SRT-4 Engine hanging on the engine jack ready for installation.
 
you need the manual transmission. It is the ONLY one that bolts up to the motor. Now also do you have the conversion axles, the shift linkages, the ECU, and the engine wiring harness? If not better start getting them. Also what about the motor mounts.
