Dodge Neon Oil Pressure Light Blinking?

My sister and I decided to go to the states this weekend. While we were a few miles away from our destination our oil pressure light came on then went off right away.

Right before we left on this trip we got our oil and filter changed.

This could be serious. Check your oil level immediately - add oil if necessary. Look for oil under your car. Don't drive it if the oil pressure light comes on - pull over immediately as damage could occur very soon. Sometimes the people in the oil change business mess up and you could have a leak.

Neons have issues with connections to the dashboard guage circuit board. That can result in occasional indicator blinks. My speedometer, gas, and temp guages occasionally drop to zero. Banging the dash brings them back. I'll fix it when it gets annoying enough or fails altogether.

Still, it being oil pressure, you need to make sure that 1) oil level is correct and 2) oil pump is functioning.

Its also possible that the screen over the oil pickup in the oil pan became briefly clogged. Unfortunately you need to remove the oil pan to fix that. A messy job that also requires you to remove a motor mount temporarily.

Bottom line, if it was a random blink that hasn't repeated, its most probably the dashboard issue.
