When I bought my used 2000 Grand Caravan, the check engine light was on and the dealership couldn't figure out why. I happened to notice that the pos. battery terminal was corroded, so I disconnnected the cable and cleaned it with a wire brush. After I reconnected the battery and turned the key to start it, it didn't do anything. When I turned the key a second time, I started to hear a snapping sound similar to when you get zapped by static electricity. I thought something was getting ready to catch fire or something, so I let the key go but left it in the ignition. A few seconds later I tried the key again, and it started up fine. The weird part is that when it started, the check engine light wasn't on any more. Will a corroded terminal set off a check engine light??
