I have an 03 dodge dakota. The other day on my way to work my check engine light came on... or at least thats when i noticed it. I did the key test and the code came back as "P0442" I looked it up online and it says its a "A medium Evaporative Emission Control System leak has been detected."
Can anyone tell me what this means? What the possible problems are? or what harm not getting this fixed can cause?
The only information I could find is that the gas cap might be loose or need replaced. I checked it. It looks pretty much new and the o-ring isnt damaged in any kind of way.
Possible costs to fix would also be helpful : )
