Looking at buying either of these cars – the 540i is a 2000 model for 15k with 43k original miles on it – Mint! Price as a little high I think but the mileage is very good!

The charger is a 2006 R/T with Hemi with 58k miles..pretty stock besides that..15k for this as well

I know they are very different in nature, but both cars are great to drive and a lot of fun…I just cant decide..

Thoughts?

The 540i is going to have to have it's valley pan replaced. They all do.
This is not a problem as long as you are anticipating it's failure.

The whole cooling system is suspect on the 540i. These problems do not carry over to the Inline 6es. For some reason it's limited to the 8. But the plastic radiator tank gets real brittle and cracks real easily and the plastic impeller on the water pump craps the bed around 50-60K mi. And again, you will have to change the valley pan.

At least it's a 2000 so it is not saddled with that horrible early iDrive.

The Charger is a good car. It's a mixture of S and E class Mercedes Benz parts on the chassis...albeit a 10+ year old Mercedes Benz design. But if you crawl up under the dash, you can see stickers on the steering column DAIMLER BENZ/ MADE IN GERMANY. But it has it's usual Chrysler quirks too. Altogether, the Charger is fun. But big fat@ss car kind on fun. Don't expect it to handle like a car that weighs more than a quarter ton less with two fewer doors.

The BMW is the best choice. i've had three 5-series in a row and it is the best in its class.

the dodge drives crap and cannot corner.

even if the bmw costed 5k more, i would still go for it

Unless the charger is the 5.7L or the 6.1L version, DON'T buy it

No way you go with the 4 door so-called Charger. It's just a gimmick. At least the BMW will still be on the road in 5 years (barring an accident).

Both are nice cars but BMW will cost more to maintain and repair, it's already 9 years old. However, if you have it inspected by a certified mechanic and find no issues with it, I think BMW would be a better buy in terms of handling, status, and resale value.

However, I had a Charger for 2 days as a rental and had a blast. Nice car and that was only a 6 cylinder. I can only imagine how fun V8 would be.
