I know very little about car audio, but i would like to put a killer system in my dodge challenger. Its the 4 speaker version so i plan on replacing all the speakers and putting 2 subs in the back...is 1.5 - 2 grand an acceptable figure for what it will cost with professional installation

With professional installation, no. 1.5-2K will get you garbage from a audio shop. You will need to look on line and price it there, then bring it all in to the shop for your install, then you can get away with 1.5-2K including install. I am going to suggest that you look on ebay for somethings, and go to:
www.sonicelectronix.com
for the subs, amps, and the wiring kit.
For the interior speaker, I am going to suggest Elemental Designs e9.65i. That set of speakers is totally sick, I have 2 sets in my G35. When my sub is not in the car, it still sounds like I have a small sub installed. Highs, mids, and lows are crystal clear, which is how it is supposed to be. But they are like $225 a set right now.
