Dodge Caravan transmission gets stuck in 2nd gear after 30 minutes of driving. Why?

2002 Caravan 3.3 v6 / The van runs fine at first. Shortly after getting to normal running temp (15-20 minutes) the transmission will start to slip in first gear. Then first gear goes out all together. Then you are stuck in 2nd gear. After driving for a few more minutes the engine (maybe trany slipping) will start cutting out. Park it for an hour and you are back to square one, it drives fine. Park it for several hours and you can even get the engine light to go out. Trouble code is p0700 (which I know is of no real help). Any ideas??? Engine temp defiantly seems to be a factor.

Because the Caravan transmission is a notorious failure. Chrysler insists there is nothing wrong with the design, but it is noted to fail easily.

Google Caravn transmissions, and you will find many pages of complaints. Our local transmission shop charges about $850 to rebuild them if you remove it yourself.

you need a trans shop, and here is your codehttp://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/bl_obd_7.htm
