Doctor's note

I have never skipped a test or exam (or even just a day of school) for illness. However, if I were too sick to go to school and write a test one day, I would need a doctor's note in order not to get a 0 on the test. Apparently, university policy is that the doctor's note must be written for the day of the test. This is a concern for me because if I were ever too sick to go to school to write a test, wouldn't I be too sick to go to the doctor's and get a note? I would get an automatic 0 on the test...
 
I guess you could always call your dr.'s office and ask them what they would do in a situation like that, or ask someone at the university what you should do. Hopefully you will never need to! :)
 
you can't assume because you are too sick to take a test that you are too sick to go to the doc. For example...you may have a horrible sinus infection that may not allow you to concentrate but you may be able to go to the doc.

Usually if you go in a day or two later with the complaint, a note saying you've been seen around the test date is usually good enough. They just do that to get kids to not skip the test really...
 
My college has a policy in place that states a person has to have a note if he or she misses a test. I had missed my Sociology exam in February because I had pneumonia and I had to bring the professor a note. I felt humiliated. I have a daughter in college and I felt like I was being treated like a child! So I asked the professor about it when I gave her the note. She said that the college implemented this because some people miss an exam and then weeks later when they realize their mid-term or final mark is not what they needed to pass the course, they will say, "But I was sick!" This way, the person who misses the test can't say they had no idea what the policy is. Even as a student, I have heard a lot of interesting excuses from some of my classmates so I can definitely understand why they put that into place!
 
Kiasmama => If I can get out of bed, I go write the test. I just zone in and all other pains (etc) disappear. So unless I am so sick that I can't sit up, I'll probably write the test. And if I can't sit up, I can't go see the doctor. This is my problem...

Chaotic Chick => I think it's a good system as well. It stops people from skipping tests just to write them at their leisure. People can't say "I'm not ready today, so I won't write the test, I can just say I'm sick". I think it makes it fairer since the make up test (if you're actually sick and have to write it at a later date) is harder (or so I have heard from professors).

Thanks to both of you. I know this is sort of an odd question, I guess I should just contact the university about it (as it's their policy anyways) and we're sort of speculating. Thanks for your time people.
