Doctors false reports

Yes I have reported to his superior. It is a case of the "good ole boy" network. He too states it is his word against mine, so much for that. I am now in the process of writing to the Chief Medical Officer ( CEO) of the clinic involved. I will report when I here back from him , if i do, that is.

How , or to whom, do I complain about a doctor who has made many false statements in his report about my appointment with him. I managed to get a copy of his report and much of it is ficticious. I contacted the facility and presented what I thought was pretty stong verbal contradictions to the reports but they say my word against his and they are going with him. Meanwhile I have been billed for several procedures that were not done.

Have received a letter from the Chief Medical Officer. " All the charges are appropriate and no discounts will be given. Thanks for the letter".
I have run out of options I guess. I have told the billing dept. I am not going to pay for this visit and they have told me they would turn over to collections. I havn't experienced collections before so I don't know what to expect.

He claims in his report that he attempted to aspirate fluid from my ankle to test for gout, when in fact he did not attempt this and stated at the time that he didn't think there was enough swelling to get a good sample. He also states he examined my back and found it to be normal, full mobility, when in fact my back is full of arthritis, has lateral stenosis, foraminal stenosis and spondlylitheses. He claims to have done all of this which adds about $185.00 to my bill. I have spoken to the nurse laison on this and have been told it his word against mine and they believe him.

You can fight this on principle if you wish. However, the damage to your credit from going to collections and the cost of fixing it will far exceed the $185.00. To hire another another doctor to examine you and state that the procedures were not done would cost way more than $185.00.

Sometimes you have to pick your battles. Not every hill is worth taking. Every General who ever won a war always lost some battles.

Did you report this to your insurance company? I have a friend who's doctor billed him for something that wasn't done and he reported it to his insurance and they wouldn't pay until the dispute was resolved. The doctors office then claimed it was for a proceedure that was done 3 years ago that they forgot to charge for. Insurance checked their records and they DID pay for that proceedure 3 years ago and has flagged that doctor in their files. It is doctors like that, that drive up our insurance costs!

You can also report the doctor to the state medical board. And I would recommend that any communication with the doctor or office be in writing. You can send them a certified letter about how you are disputing the charges.

The Better Business Bureau might be able to help. You also have the option of taking them to small claims court.

Have you reported this to the Administrator above the doctor?

i don't think i would be returning to this doctor ever again. I would Fire him and move on to a good honest reputable physician.

This is terrible for this doctor to make false reports. What is this world coming to, my gosh terrible.

Wish you well

I would contact your state representative, state attorney's general and any state licensing board. Don't bother fooling around with his office superiors...they are going to cover their ass. The above agencies might at least investigate...and if nothing else, it will scare the doc into submission. they don't like getting letter with state letterhead on them. I've tried so many times to get issues resolved the best way, but anymore....I send off a letter.

Hello, HolsumOne;

I am going to school to get an Associate Degree in Medical Office Management. I have just finished a course in Insurance Reimbursement, which I am proud to say I received a 97 for the entire course. Anyway, what I've learned is that if a doctor documents something that was not done, it is claims fraud and should be reported to the OIG (Office of the Inspector General). This is the government agency that has the right to investigate and audit the records of physicians and payers. The government website to get in contact with them is http://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/complianceguidance.html and you do not have to prove the intent to commit fraud in order for the provider to be found guilty (most of this I have taken straight from my Insurance Reimbursement book, just to make sure what I am saying is accurate). This falls under the False Claims Act. I hope this helps you.

I want to thank everyone for their responses. I am not sure what I will do yet. I may have to capitulate and pay the bill even though it sticks in my craw to reward this doctor. I know I am not the first and will not be the last,that this guy has processed false claims of treatment on, but I don't think I can throw good money after bad and continue the dispute. Me, against all of these highly respected doctors? I don't think I stand a chance.
