Thanks everyone for your replies I am so thankful to have everyone here. Pat they didn't tell me about elevating higher then the heart so thanks for that information because it has really been swollen today for some reason.

Hey MM you are right about how things change when we have all the information. I asked my husband if the doctor had told him about the additional problems and he said "No". When the PA explained all what he did I told her then that explained a lot of things. Duh!!! I don't know why all the medical profession thanks everyone is out for drugs:mad: and some times it is very frustrating getting them to understand anything else. I hope you will get some relief from the esi/nerve block and I have had several EMG's done and even though they can be painful I was able to get some valuable information especially about my permanent nerve damage in my cervical spine. I felt like a pin cushion when I came out the last time but was glad that I had it done.

Emily I agree that as soon as this swelling goes down I will start to feeling better each day. I also have had many surgeries and my family always says I do well with the surgery but always have a terrible time with recovery. My husband said yesterday "When have you EVER had a smooth recovery?" He said he knew from the beginning when the doctor said this would be a breeze--right!!!

Kathy I will be so glad when this is a memory and I have been trying to do better on the resting. Sometimes I feel like I do nothing all day and then I feel guilty about it but I know that rest is important for all of us.

I am going to try and get in the pool tomorrow because my granRABon will be over if I have any problems. All my muscles have seemed so tense lately and a lot of nerve pain in my neck. Wish I had a hot tub!!!! You all take care and thanks again for being there.

Everyone take care and hopefully we will all get to feeling better soon.

Sorry I didn't get back to everyone yesterday but we had computer problems. I saw the PA at the surgeon's office yesterday and she said everything is okay. She said the swelling is normal and so is the pain. I told her when he said that this would be a breeze I believe he was wrong. Even while I was talking to her I would have those pains that took my breath away and caused me to holler. She said that he had to do more to my knee then he had expected when he got in there and found more damage then the MRI had shown. Actually the swelling had gone down a little yesterday morning but then it is always more at night. She said that I was the only one who could say how much I should do because if I started having pain, not discomfort, then I had done too much. I told her I was really concerned about a blood clot so she checked and showed me where the pain would be and I told her that is exactly where I was having the pain when I called there office. She said I should still take it easy and be careful and not twist my leg. So I guess everything is okay but I have had a lot of pain today so I guess I will get in the recliner and take it easy. She said call if you have any questions or if anything changes. She said you will always have the arthritis pain but there was nothing they could do with that at this time. So thanks for everyone's concerns but it looks like everything is okay and I need to understand that the pain is normal.

Take care

Glad to hear everything is okay!! Did they tell you to elevate the knee so that is higher than the heart? My hubby was doing that and it did help. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Linda ~

I am discovering that I get much more information out of the PAs. Yeserday at the PM doc, I talked with the PA first, probably for a half hour before the doc came in the room to join us. After he left, we talked more. He seemed to understand my reasons for being there better than the doc, who seemed to have a pre-conceived notion. He was very busy telling me all the different drugs we could try, etc. I told him I really wasn't there for pain relief, unlike probably 95% of the rest of his patients...that my pain was tolerable and went away when I got off my feet...that I was there because I was trying to understand where this new pain was coming from.

I had an EMG about 2 years ago but it was in my arm and leg, as I recall. I assume this one will be in the back. Is that what you had?

Yes, it should help to keep your knee elevated above your heart whenever you are sitting or lying down. Hope you're feeling a tad better today.

Hi Linda,

It's always nice to know how much more they had to do, isn't it? Kind of puts things in perspective to know why it is hurting.

I had my first appointment with a pain management doc today. Once I was finally able to make him and his PA understand that I wasn't really there for drugs, that I wanted to know why I had a particular pain that is new since surgery, things went pretty well. I am going to try one esi/nerve block to see if it provides relief, and I am going to have an EMG to determine what's going on with the nerves. I never had the EMG prior to surgery, so that will be new information that I will be glad to have.

Hope you're feeling a little better today. Take it easy!!

xx M;)M

Hi MM
I agree about the PA's also and I know that the nurse practicioner at my family physician's office always gives me more time and more concern.

My first EMG's where one in my arms and another in my legs for the lower spine problem. Then I went back in 2 years later after I had my first neck surgery because when I kept having problems with my neck they were reading the EMG report back to me and I told them that the report stated it was my right arm and they had done the left arm. Well, that caused confusion so they repeated the left arm again so my medical recorRAB would be right and it also showed the damage in my cervical spine. I went ahead an was treated with medication for at least another year and started having more problems with nurabness in hanRAB and both elbows and severe pain in my forearm so then they did both arms again and that showed the ulnar neuropathy and carpal tunnel on the left. They never did another EMG on my lower back but said the leg would show them what they needed if there was nerve damage in the lower spine. I had a terrible time with balance and unable to stand on my toes and failed the straight line walk so I think they didn't need anything else for my back. I am sure you will get the information you need when they do the EMG.

Not feeling well today but I really can't put my finger on it. I have had a terrible headache all day that I can't get rid of and my lower back is aching really bad. I told my daughter that I just hurt all over today for some reason. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Take care

Hi Linda ~

have you had a change in your weather overnight?? Often that barometer makes much more difference in our pain than we realize!! Take it easy today!!

Hi Linda,
Well, that was good news. The PA's explanation does make sense. So much for a piece of cake! It would sure be nice to hear that you could expect that pain to let up really soon now. I hope that's the case! I haven't had knee surgery, but with the other surgeries I've had, except for the back surgeries, I just suddenly turned a corner after X nuraber of weeks and felt like I was a new person. You're got a lot to recover from, but you'll start feeling better and better as the swelling goes down.

Keep us in the loop!

Praying for you,
Emily

Hi Linda Glad to hear your appointment went well. Hopefully this too will only be a memory soon. Rest up. Kathy

Hi MM and I think you are right on that barometric change. We are actually down in the 60's tonight which is nice and the pool temperature changed a lot because of the cooler temperatures last night. I have been using the heating pad a lot today for the back and the pain has been so bad if I try and stand for very long. My back feels so weak when it starts acting up like this. It is not just the lower back either I have been having a lot of pain in the mid back and it makes me nauseated when it starts acting up. Does your's feel that way too? Thanks for all the reminders because I do sometimes forget about the weather changes. Hope you have a good weekend.
