Doctor-fears

All right heres the deal, I play a variety of contact sports and some of the old injuries are starting to show up again. I've been debating if I should go to the hospital and get a few X-Rays.

The problem is I have a bit of a phobia of going to the doctor, I have no problem with needles and the such but I hate it when they tell me I can't do activities I normally do on a daily basis.

But after last season of lacrosse I sprained my ankle and the size never went back to normal, also my shoulder keeps popping out of the socket, and I know eventually I should get surgery on the rotator cuff, but I don't want to be out commishion for the recovery time because I'll just become a lazy ass fuck.

Are my fears irrational or should I continue putting off the inevitable until it becomes unbearable.

I'd be worried about both injuries. Your persistant separating shoulder is due to the fact (I'm guessing) that you have weak ligaments holding the joint in place. That problem won't heal with time, and you will probably have to have surgury to repair the ligaments.

As per the ankle, are you positive it was a sprain? You may have popped a tendon off, and taken a bone chip with it. This would explain why the swelling never returned to normal (and because of it, you now have a lot of scar tissue around the original injury).

You should suck it up, and have both injuries looked at, because they both can become worse easily, and put you out of whatever lineup you are in for longer. Go to the doc.

My friend does parkour, and he tripped while going to the bottle shop. His foot started killing him, but he doesn't believe doctors know anything. He fought the pain for a couple of days, and finally gave in. His foot was broken in 2 different places.

He can't parkour for a good 4+ months. Doctors don't bring good news. :-(

These are both very logical guesses to your injuries. I play football, and if I had the injuries that you have, I would visit a doctor immediatly, before something really bad happens, like you permanently break your ankle (happened to a friend) he's now in a boot for the rest of his life. :thumbsdn:

Always get those things checked out. If you let it become worse, you could be out a lot longer than you would be if you went now. Also, sports are never as important as your health. After you're out of college, the chances of you ever playing a sport again are slim to none. (Unless you're incredible.)

Yeah sure put it off till it's unbearable. Then you'll really have a fear of docotrs when they lay you on that table to put you under and operate on your arm because you were to stubborn to get it checked before. Don't be childish, going to the doctor is something everyone has to do and no one likes to do.

I have fucked my right arm up in so many different ways from baseball, best chance (after the problem is resolved) is to strengthen up the problem areas, if its the shoulders get on the shoulder press ect. It will really improve your resistance and chances are you'll play better too.

Its worked for me at the gym:)

thanks for all your advice people I guess I'll check with a doc after my seasons up (I only have 3 games left)

I seriously can barely lift weights for extended amounts of time (I go to the gym 5 times a week) shoulder flys and shit like that actually makes it hurt more and I can feel it going in and out it ain't cool
