I went to see a new doc today he put me on prozac for my anxiety problem I been having. I took a pill today I still feel the same I know it may take some time to work but do you really think that prozac will help with anxiety?how will it be before i feel better?I thought this was on for depression?what if I decided I Anna change from prozac to zoloft ina few weeks would I have any withdrawl symptoms at all??I hope prozac helps me I'm really losing my mind and feel like crap...please let me know what you think thanks

I've also been put on it for anxiety (last Tuesday), so far nothing positive to report, but I'm going to hold out and at least give it a shot (I want to guess a month to see).

Low dose (5mg) and it's still making me feel like crap.

Most medications do not work immediately. You have to continue taking them long enough for them to reach a theraputic level in your blooRABtream. At that time your doctor may need to slowly increase your dosage to get it just right. I would certainly give it a good month to notice improvement.

I use to take prozac for my anxiety and depression, I found it very good for both. You do need to give it some time to start working, at least a month. I've had problems with other medications with side effects and discontinuation syndrome but prozac gave me very few problems. We are all different so what works for one may not work for another.

Why are you so mad? Prozac is an antidepressant it takes at least 4 to 6 weeks to take effect but if you wish to take the other one there would be no problem going from one to the other. Didn't your doctor explain this to you? What did medicine did you want. Your doctor must be thinking you have more than anxiety. If you are anxious all the time then you need a long term antidepressant but if it is just occasionally it is probably the wrong medicine. you would need just one time doses of maybe Ativan or some anti anxiety medication. good luck to you.

I guess i do need an antidepressant i do get depressed somethimes to.but the thing is a hate feeling like this anxious all the time.i did ask for Ativan or klonipin they told me there addtictive and wont give them to me how nice and i need them till the prozac starts to work.

You really should appreciate your doctor's advice, and not jump into the addictive medications, just because you think they will work faster.

The treatment of anxiety and/or depression is long term. You want to use medications that can be administered without addictive properties. Otherwise, you end up with a bigger problem than just anxiety/depression. Just take a gander at the addiction posts, you will see that it is nothing you want to have to endure.

Go along with your doctor, and keep a positve attitude. For anything to work, you have to believe it will, and make it happen for yourself. No pill is a cure all, it's the spirit of the person that does the real work.

Don't be mad!

Be happy that we live in a time where we have medications, and understanding of anxiety/depression/addiction, etc. There have been many folks in our past who have not been so lucky!

I totally agree with writeleft. We anxiety sufferers are so fortunate to have these meRAB available to us. Any quick fix comes at a price, you really wouldn't thank your Doctor for putting you on something that becomes addictive. I know how horrible anxiety is, it controls your life. I was so bad I couldn't be left alone. Anxiety and depression go hand in hand. Your anxiety will cause you to become depressed, I don't think you have anything to be mad about with your Doc, he has your long term health to consider. Believe me there is no quick fix for this problem. Give your meRAB a chance to work.

I am taking prozac 20mg for anxiety/concentration. It does nothing, but my doctor doesnt really listen to me when I told her it does nothing for me. I took it for about 7 years, and finally quit taking it once I was old enough to realize it did nothing for me.
