Do you use your Blackberry as a modem?

If you do, have you experienced the following?

Over a number of days, I am getting sluggish service: every few minutes the browser "freezes", and diagnostics tend to say "cannot access DNS server".

It could be either a T-Mobile problem, or a Vista networking problem ... As part of settling this, I'd be grateful for feedback from you:

Are you facing this issue now, or have you in the last few days?
Could you give a brief description? [machine, OS, BB...]

Thank you!

Okay... thanks for the info, keep it coming please; I'm in California myself.

Yes, I do mean USB tethering... in any case the Bluetooth in my model cannot be used for modem connections.

NOW, however, we seem to be having a complete outage!... which needs an additional thread.

Update: After the events in the "T-Mobile outage" thread, I haven't had a freeze yet; it could be freezes were related to faulty SIM card behavior

BUMP and Revive:

Yes, I am having the same issue I originally described, "freezes", again.

I renew the call: if you are experiencing something similar, please speak up. I am still trying to decide whether it is a T-Mobile issue or one with Windows netwotking.

Well, I don't need the shark on my model -- they said I would, but I figured out how to get by without it. No Bluetooth option, though, just USB.

I do get (and currently have) the freezes I mentioned. Judging from this thread they don't seem to be very common but they do exist.

I have not ruled out other explanations yet... hoping this thread would provide clues. Again... soliciting responses ["does this happen to you?"], and many thanks to those who have already contributed!

Boomboom, have you looked at directions (available here on Pinstacl) for using your BB as a modem?

Kane, that's good. I have consistently spotty service with T-Mobile

Tommy, it is these 'on again, off again' that are off-putting

OK everybody: at this point I do think it is a T-Mobile problem, having to do with the DNS Server. Apps that do NOT need domain name resolution work fine; but apps that do need it will only work for a bit and then freeze, waiting for the server.

Hey, T-Mobile!... is the DNS server ( 66.94.9.120 ) all right? Any way you can add some muscle to it?
