Do you tip your waiter/waitress?

I was happy to see most everyone mentioned 20%. As a server here are a couple thoughts. If the food is horrible or comes late do not blame your server she/he has NO control over that and shouldnt be penalized. Express Nicely what your complaint is and I can assure you a competent server will go above and beyond to see to it that you leave happy. When in a busy restaurant and you are not being seated quickly or served quickly have patience, observe for a moment, be tolerant. 1 or 2 demanding guests can throw your whole pace off. Never "run" your server meaning ask for something and when she returns with it ask for something else and so on and so on. We do make our living with tips! It is hard work! Treat your server as you want to be treated. Remember we are servers...not servants. Thanks to all the great tippers out there

Really, how do you forget to tip. It's all part of going out. I walk in to a place with a 25% on my mind. It's the wait staff that brings it down. I really hate sitting at a table with my empty plate when the bill is already paid, or I just get rotten service. Dink, minus % points.

Yes. I usually pay whatever is convenient for me between 15% and 20%, sometimes more if the service was excellent.

Not tipping is very selfish. On the other hand if the Waiter/Waitress gives me attitude, or tries to rush me through the meal, I won't tip. I eat out to relax. I get attitude from work. It's not my fault you had a bad day.I'm not a number, don't rush me through. Sometimes I get attitude because I don't order a drink. Sorry lady I'm a recovering alcoholic. Discriminate against my disability and I'll sue your ass.
But, I know waiting tables is hard work, and lot's of customer are morons or assholes, so I try to tip twenty percent when the treat me right.

Of course I do. I enjoy fine dining, and tips usually get pretty big there. Two weeks ago, I gave a $80 tip for a $400 meal. Only once did I not...it was at something like East Side Marios, or a TGIF, and instead of being seated at the dining room, we were seated at the bar, no one came to us, we had to flag people down, meals came late, we were completely ignore. I paid with credit, and left a penny on the table. Penny for your thoughts you know.

To the poster below...how do you "forget" to tip? Do you forget to pay the bill as well?

Always!!! Should be 20 % nowadays.

I am a waitress and people should know that tips are our only source of income. Yes, we get hourly pay, which come to about $3 an hour after taxes...so please, TIP YOUR SERVERS!! We all need to make a living, and if you can afford to go out to eat, you need to include a tip when you're done.
