Do you think you are immature for watching cartoons?

There is a general perception that people who watch cartoons are childish. This is probably even more true if you are an anime fan.

Anyway, I was wondering how old you are, and if you think of yourself as being immature for your age? What type of a career do you plan on having or already have? Do people around you think you are strange for watching them?

I'm 18

Most cartoons I like to watch most people would consider adult cartoons, and all my peers watch them as well, so to answer your question...no.

I ironically got called childish for liking cartoons by an anime fan. It annoys me when people are ignorant to the obvious hypocrisy, as not all cartoons are 'funny' or 'kid-friendly'. And it's not just anime, it's all types of cartoons from all countries.

In fact, I've watched SAW and yet watching animated movies like "Watership Down" and "Plague Dogs" still freak me out because of their violence. Strange.

I actually am interested in becoming a cartoonist myself, which I am cautious when announcing it, since not everybody in the artistic community appreciates cartoons. I'm a self-taught artist, but I hope to take classes this summer and am thinking about going to the Art Institute of Philadelphia, which has a great animation course.

On the maturity level, I can say I'm a bit both immature and mature. I'm immature because I sometimes just feel so nostalgic and sometimes still feel the need to get comfort from my mom when I get scared. XD;; But otherwise, I'm a lot more mature than most people my age... I mean, I'm 16 and can relate better with adults. I'm pretty open and welcoming of other people's opinions and am not afraid to admit I'm wrong, which is unfortunately something that I found lacking in a college kid who disliked me. (Same guy who thinks I'm immature for liking cartoons, as mentioned above.)

....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA,,,,Funny Asking someone like me a qustion like that,,,,No, no I don't Cartoons & Anime are an artform just like Cinima comics, live action shows etc. Theres nothing Immature about them...Well except the ones with toilet humor...LOL. But I consider an Immature person a person that gives into sterotypes I mean A Teenager/College Student/Adult that does nothing but Drink, Party & Read/watch "Explicet/Perverted" Marterial is far more Immature than any cartoon/anime fan i know could ever be. Same goes for Women who act stupid on purpose & People who act "Ghetto" becuase the Singers & the rappers do. Those My Friends Are the truly immature people that cause this world so many unnessacary pains.

I mean Maturiy in Deffinition is whole-heartedly accepting yourself for who you are, Being in control of your emotions, desires etc, and knowing Right from wrong despite what others say!:D

I don't hide the fact that I love animation from anyone. There are far more important things to care about then what I enjoy in my free time.

It also helps that I'm majoring in Animation so people can understand my passion.

I'm 28 years old, and technically I am rather immature. Not in the sense that I'll have a fit if I don't get the candy I like or some such, but I'm not really like most people my age. My idea of fun is vastly different from their own (go out and get drunk? No thanks, I'd rather watch Pucca). I'm pretty much a kid at heart no matter what, so I guess my interest in animation goes hand in hand.

When I was little I wanted to be a cartoonist or animator, but I really don't have the skill to do that so it hasn't happened. Right now I'm just content to write.

Oh, and I guess I'm lucky in that I'm surrounded by people who watch cartoons. My almost 60 year old dad has Nickelodeon on all day, his favorite shows being Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Oddparents. My sister and brother-in-law like that stuff, too. In college my roommates and I would regularly quote The Simpsons and Futurama. I rarely come across somebody who thinks it's dumb or tells me I should "grow up and move on." If I do, they're no friend of mine, and I pity them.

No and for two reasons:

1. Immaturity is how you behave, not the entertainment medium you enjoy. Immaturity is purposely making a gross sound in public, yelling in a library or theater and firing insults.

2. There are plenty of adult programs (i.e. Reality Programs for one) that have characters doing gross or embarassing thing. The only reason why juvenile adult programs are accepted is simply for the sake of adult content.

Absolutely not! I'm 15, but I am easily more mature than 95% of my High School. I think it takes a lot more maturity to proudly say that you love shows like Chowder and Spongebob than ridicule people who do like them. (Which a lot of people do)

Cartoons are a big part of my life considering I'm already beginning my plans to major in character animation in college and work for Disney. This is actually fairly realistic since I do have minor connections to Disney. I believe that the gift at the young at heart does NOT make you immature in the slightest.

Amen ta that brother Im only a senior in High Shcool But conisdering how most of the other Students act..I feel Like a Senior Citizen..Maturity wise that is.

Not really. Hell, I got a crush on a girl thats a big fan of Pokemon! :anime: Not a big deal to me!

Anyways, I'm 18. I still watch Cartoons, not as much like I did in the 90's, but still. If Toonami ever come back on air, you know I'll be watching it!

It's why I'm not good with socializing, because when I do, everyone stares at me blankly asking me what that word meant and why I had an opinion besides 'that sucks' and 'that was awesome'.

It's not just my love of cartoons that isolates me, I'm in general an odd person. I have a morbid, sarcastic sense of humor and listen to underground music. Plus I'm the only kid who has more cartoon shirts than band t-shirts.

I suppose I just prefer just listening to my iPod and going into my imaginary world and thinking of ideas I could draw, write, create rather than the burden of socializing... and trust me, on most occasions it is one. I'm such an introvert. XD

No, that's not why I'm immature! But to answer the question, no. The way I see it, the people who write the cartoons (and I'm studying to do just that) are adults, so why can't adults enjoy them? Besides, cartoons saved my life. Literally. Not going to go into the details, but they did. So no, I don't feel "immature" for watching cartoons. Not even stuff like Land Before Time. (don't laugh.)

This, this and this. I'm 14 (basically still a child...)
MUCH more mature than my classmates. It's very hard for me to socialize because of interests other than, well, whatever they're into. I don't know xD
And if I do find someone worth talking to, they usually are waaaay past cartoons and immediately assume I'm into what shows only they have heard of.

They don't take the time to know that there's more to animation than Spongebob. And it's even worse than people ask you what you want to be when you grow up. How are you supposed to explain what a storyboard artist is to completely extroverted, hard headed teenagers? lol.

My whole life I've always just watched what I wanted to watch, regardless of what age or gender group it's supposedly aimed at, without caring a lick what people think of me. People think I'm strange for other reasons besides what shows I watch.

So to answer the question: no, I don't consider myself immature for watching cartoons. I don't consider myself immature at all. Odd, quirky, geeky, sure, but not immature.

Tsk. I hate the word "mature". So many people could think up of ridiculous reasons on what makes someone mature that it doesn't even matter anymore.

On topic, no I don't. I am called childish at times. But, never towards the cartoons I watch. 'sides, you can be 80 and enjoy stuff like Looney Tunes.

True that, most of my classmates think I'm an asylum patient. XD

... In all honesty, that's better than being thought of as 'emo'. Ick.

Watching cartoons doesn't make someone immature. Acting immature makes someone immature.

I think that I'm weird, sure, but my enjoying cartoons has nothing to do with that. My love of animation barely scratches the surface of why I'm a weirdo.

I have been called childish before and in some ways I am (how many people my age watch and enjoy PBS cartoons?), but I'm easily more mature than the majority of people I personally know.
