I visited Paris a couple days ago and at every metro stop, there is a bike rake with bicycles available to rent. They are free for the first half an hour but after that you pay an hourly charge. When you finish using the bicycle, you simply drop it off at the nearest bike rack which is usually near a metro stop or at a nearby street and then go walk home. Do you think such a program would work in new york city?
This should not be limited to nyc but it could be used in chicago, washington dc, seattle, and san francisco and any other cities which are not too spread out.
umm..i forgot to include this but the bicycles make you usually pay to take it off the rack.
