Hey,

I currently have a xv6800 w/ insurance on it and I know that Verizon does not carry this phone any more. The phone is kinda getting beat up so I was thinking of calling the insurance people and get my phone changed (you know a little white lie). I have had this phone since before they implemented the rule that all smartphones should have a data plan so I don't have a data plan. I rarely ever use that functionality cause I'm on a college campus and I just use wifi.

So my question...
1. Will I get a phone compareable to this? And what do you think it will be?
2. Will I have to get a data plan?
3. If so is there a possibility of getting out of it?

I know this has been beaten to death but I love the PDA functionality, but can't afford to pay $45 extra for a service I would rarely use.

Picking one up off ebay is not going to work either. All smart phones now require a data plan (whether it's used or brand new). Your not required to have one as your grandfathered in from your old plan.

If you try to get a different phone, you are going to be required to get a data plan. Thats one of the things that suck about Verizon. I had a very old plan with a ton of minutes. I refused to renew or get a new phone because I wasn't paying squat for the package. I eventually had to get a new phone and as soon as I did, they made me change plans.

So to answer your question, you will have to start paying for the data package. What phone they will give you is up to the store you go to, and what they have available.
 
Well, it's not Verizon who does insurance claims...it is a third party service provider called Asurion. While Verizon Wireless doesn't carry this phone, Asurion most likely will.

If they don't, they will get you another phone comparable in features and price. So you aren't going to get something nice. Also, using Asurion as a method of fraud and is punishable by law (a felony). When I worked at Verizon, there were about 1,000 customers who were actually thrown in prison by Asurion.
