we used to take this sort of thing in our stride..now we are running to the courts over the least wee thing..has it gone too far now

Yes!! And its not the kids that are claiming it, their lovely parents are doing it.

Pop over to parenting and you get 'questions' every couple of days of how parents can claim compensation for their little cherubs falling off shelves and fixtures in shops. Well what were they doing playing on them in the first place??

Accidents are part of life. I was really accident prone when I was a kid, its part of life let it go.

I'm not against legitimate claims, but it's got out of hand.

I believe there should be a panel to deal with minor claims who have the power to say ,away and chase yerself.
I've had an opportunity to claim the NHS and advised by letter that I would be entitled to do so,but declined.I am still affected 5 months after the event.

The article you cite is sensationalist garbage. (That's being diplomatic.) They cite a bunch of unrelated "facts" and omit any and all contextual information and background information. One might as well be reading a comic book.

we are a compensation nation. Is it any wonder we are in a recession? It's totally ridiculous

they must think money grows on trees...

its the tax payers money they are taking

the problem here is not the money that they recieve. It's what the headmasters or school board will do in retaliation- padded frikkin cells everywhere.. no ball sports or physical education, as that's far too dangerous, double the school fees to pay for padding the "dangerously hard" brick walls...

the result? a bunch of obese pansies who can't handle it when they're 40 years old and someone calls them an idiot.

The money they receive is nothing compared to the cost of a nanny state

yes , when you think of the bumps and cuts we had when we fell in the playgrounds, or off the gym benches , someone was probably liable but we wore a plaster and got on with it.. I blame the greedy parents who have nothing better to do than waste a lawyers time. But they get paid out so its' kept quiet' as it would affect the schools HMIE award !

"£48,808 awarded to a Bradford child who touched a hot radiator pipe" Iol oh the poor mite, must have said 'ouch thats hot miss' (course it is -its a radiator- leave it alone ya brat) what did he touch it with? Live electrical cable?!

Whatever happened to "it was just an accident".
Why does everything have to have a monetary value, surely these playground bumps are just part of growing up.
Wish I had the nerve to claim everytime one of mine got hurt at school, I could be worth a fortune by now!

alas many are using it simply as a way to gain financial reward. I read of the woman soldier who is asking for nearly half a million in compensation for harassment, admittedly it was pretty serious, and she has quit, but even the most seriously injured soldiers don't get that from the compensation board. And often those of the ones who really need it.

God, my parents were obviously useless to me, I got nothing when I trapped my fingers in a door and my nails turned blue and fell off. Despite the fact that they grew back within weeks, it has obviously traumatised me for life. Do you think it's too late to sue? It's only been 38 years

One way of helping is to charge parents an insurance premium in order for their kids to take part in any sports etc....After all it's the parents who persue the claim.

Its been out of control for a long time now and for what? shameless greed. Life is meant to be a learning experience but that was when there was such a thing as dignity...
