Do you think the war on drugs is a joke?

I do because our government is a joke. How does all the cocaine and heroin get into the US? Yea our government the people that are suppose to be fighting this. Wake up people

Hmmm...I'm not laughing at it. It is atrocious.
1. Destabilizing South America, where crops are regularly bombed whil the DEA tries to destroy coca production and clean politicians have a very public price on their heads for opposing Cartels made powerful by money they make playing the US drug war. This wouldn't have any negative consequences for US relations with South American countries, would it?
2. Draining US taxdollars and showing very little in return. Or are people not ODing in the streets since Nixon declared the stupid war?
3. Creates a black market that hurts people. In a free market, drug dealers would be held accountable for product violations, but on the black market, they could put whatever they want into the drugs they sell.

At the least we should call it what it really is; the war on (some) drugs.

Even though marijuana is less toxic than tobacco and alcohol, which one out of the three is illegal?

And we don't want our kids getting high. That's fine, but we have no problem giving them mind-altering substances like ritalin.

Yeah, but in a cringe-funny, not haha-funny. Prohibition never works, everyone involved with the WOD knows this, so you have to wonder why it's so important. The people promoting the WOD obviously don't care about drug use, in fact, they are knowingly promoting policies that encourage reckless drug use. So what are they getting out of it that makes it worth all the money? My guess is: A police state.

Imagine 100 years ago before all these nonsense laws trying to keep people from doing things they want to do. You local cop was your friend. He sat around and waited for a crime to happen. If there wasn't any crime, he didn't go looking for one.

If it is a "joke",it's a bad one.It costs the Taxpayers Billions a year,it has been used as an excuse to erode our Rights on many occasions,it has caused us to have the biggest Prison Population on planet Earth,it has increased Violent Crime from drug dealers trying to distribute their products, and it has utterly failed to put even the timiest dent in the Drug Trade. In fact you could safely say that those at the top of the Drug Trade are doing better than ever financially.

It sucks. If we had 1/4th of the war on drugs, strategically in place, we would not be bankrupt, and we could also not have hard core policy influence in place that still thinks the war on drugs is good, keeping us from legalizing Mari. to tax and make us some damn money. However, traditional narrow mindedness will prevail, because fear is the most powerful tool, emotion, republican policy.

Yes. The government benefits from the underground economic boost caused by dealers buying their bling with all that money. Also the feds cops like the funding they get by asset forfeiture laws on the city, county, state, national, and international level.

Considering it would cost 10% of what we pay for the total war on drugs, to simply buy the crops and dump or destroy it, is rather amazing.
