Do you think the UK should take an example from the Americans?

Here is the UK, you can get fined £30.000 if you kill a loft full of bats. You can go to jail for 5 years for killing seagulls. I have phoned my local council and told them that if i see seagulls swoop on my grandkids again i will not hesitate to kill the them.

But if you abuse a child, or download child porn you get a measly deferred sentence, a 6 month jail term, a small fine, or community service. In some cases, ok, you do go to jail.
Why does this country protect birds and animals more than it does the children of our future?

And i am not a bird/animal hater, but our kids are more important.
Edit....sorry...i meant to say kill the birds, not my grand children...lol

Couldn't agree with you more, Elsie.

It's always puzzled me that the RSPCA is given Royal patronage yet the NSPCC isn't - the animal charity is Royal Society, the children one is National Society. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

this country has gone to the dogs, and i think the next time i hear the words human rights i just might be moved to extracting some form of retribution
as for shytehawks and their cousins the flying rats, anyone caught feeding them should, in my opinion be given a sound whipping

I agree with you, the punishments for pervs should be very harsh. Someone I know is a prison officer and he has had to release paedos knowing that they will re-offend, as the dad of two young girls he finds this very hard. The law in our country needs to represent the majority of its people and respect our views. Most of us want longer jail sentences for people who are a risk to our children.

I apologize, I'm sure you're looking for Brits to answer, but I must say as an American, I wish we'd take on the UK's animal rights!
I agree with what you're saying exactly, I just wanted to add that I wish the US would acknowledge that abuse of animals (and I do mean "abuse") as a warning of that persons mentality and handle it appropriately (stronger punishment).

I hope your desires come true, and your justice system takes stronger action towards child abusers, molesters, and pediphiles. I didn't realize any country went easy on these kinds of crimes. That's just hard to believe!

Totally agree. Our laws are sometimes crazy. My husband and I were talking about an article in our local paper, it was showing a main street in town full of litter after the usual Friday night frolics. Earlier in the week someone had an on the spot fine for throwing an apple core on the street. I agree with the fine but why are fines not given out to those throwing away chip wrappers, bottles and worse etc on a Friday night?

I know it is a different subject but it highlights how unfair our laws are.

Did you enjoy your holiday by the way?
