Do you think the media are partly responsible for creating serial killers?

Whenever there is a serial killer there's always a lot of media coverage, with the killers name mentioned over and over, kind of making the serial killer into a celebrity, which must be appealing to a warped or sick minded attention seeker, so if the media just let the police do their job with basic yet sufficient coverage of the serial killers, than surely there wouldn't be as much attraction for weirdos out there?
