Do you think the book is almost always better than the film?

for example- harry potter and the half blood prince. i read the book and went to see the film proper expecting this huge fight at the end. There was no fight! In my opinion the book was better- it had much more detail. I know that filmmakers have to cut the book down a lot- but i don't think there was any need to for the bit in the middle where the Weasley's house was set on fire. they could have used that time for a fight at the end.
do you agree? its for a project in english and im just gathering opinions :D

Not a fan of Harry Potter myself but yes I agree the book is usually always better than the film. Sometimes the film is very true to the book and allows it to shine through, but realistically you can fit more of the story into a book, for example peoples inner emotions and conflicts. In a film you have to take everything at face value. I think that is why people always feel closer to the characters when reading a book, whereas a film is over in a couple of hours and you don't get to know the true depth of the characters.

In my opinion anyway!

The books are always better because they don't have time restraints like in the movies. This way the author can spend more time on detail which makes the books better.

Most of the time the books are better. Perhaps because a writer can put as much details and side plots in it as they want whereas a film has to follow certain outlines - you can't have a six hour long movie for example.

But occasionally a film or tv-show can be better than the original books, take True Blood for example, the books are *horrid*, badly written trash. The show is pretty cool though.

it really does depend, it often is since stuff has to cut and the story can lose something. the problem is that film and books are very different media and you can't expect a book to transplant whole onto a screen, purists of books complain when things are left out but to make it work you have to. One of the best book to film transfers was lord of the rings because Jackson was true to the spirit of the book and the fundamental messages of it like friendship by keeping that he could make all sorts of script changes and they don't matter. hope this helps for your project, i wish i got stuff like that!

I know I know! There won't be much fighting till the last half of the last movie! So much for trying to save the action, because every OTHER Harry film had action and there was nothing wrong with that. I preferred the films up till 3. 4 onwards left out way too much stuff. People who haven't read Harry Potter now probably think the books are crap!

But yeah, books are better than films is some ways, such as more detail, but sometimes, films are better to share with people, and laugh about that line or scene! It looks good on the big screen doesn't it? :)
