take people with preexisting? conditions if they have been insured the last 12 months by their previous employer and cannot go on COBRA because the business closed down? If not, what is someone supposed to do about this if they are working on an consultant basis? READ THE ENTIRE QUESTION PLEASE. ANY STUPID ANSWERS BY PEOPLE WHO DO NOT FULLY COMPREHEND THE SITUATION WILL BE DELETED.
well-there should be a public option for these people.

Sure, as long as you don't complain when they raise the premiums to cover the additional risk. Insurance companies aren't charities. The whole idea is to spread the risk. They employ armies of actuaries to determine what the odds are of a claim. If you mandated they accept such risks, you;d have to accept the raised rates.

I believe a company should accept most preexisting conditions *only* after a certain period has passed.

However if it is for something like cancer or another expinsive long term sickness, the State where the person lives should responsible for that persons care.

You should delete your brain. It's like having car insurance and they won't pay because you have a dent on the rear fender. Why can't you lousy conservatives understand this and that 45,000 people die each year because they have no health insurance?
