Do you think that the terms of the religious/atheist debate are too clumsy?

For example, "atheist" refers only to lack of belief in gods, but in the debate, that term seems wholly inadequate. Non-belief in gods is a complex phenomenon that is motivated in different ways. It seems to me that those motivations are more important than the result of "no belief in deities".

Also, consider "religion". Religions are also complex, and some don't even include the most important factor for atheists: gods. Talking about "religion" seems too vague to be anything other than a distraction.
 
Yes, I also note that all "Theists" are expected to explain the Bible at times.
 
Well the terms certainly overlap, there are countless people who are religious and atheist, as well as millions (perhaps billions) who are neither.
