Not sure what you mean by "rare or very common".

The nearest stars to the Earth are the same types of stars that are found throughout our galaxy (and by extension probably the same throughout the universe). There is nothing unique about them.
Some are smaller than the sun, some are larger, some dimmer, some brighter, some have planets, some don't.
 
As common as a grain of sand on a beach. There are billions and billions of stars.
