Do you think that in England there is a hate culture towards successful people?

I have seen it before in some people around me they hate to think you might be more successful than them they would rather all your plans fail they dont like it when you think big. I also read an article recently in which Jeremy Clarkson said.

I don’t yearn for many aspects of the American way but they do seem to have this dreadful bitterness under control. When they see a man pass by in a limousine, they say: “One day, I’ll have one of those.” When we see a man pass by in a limo, we say: “One day, I’ll have him out of that.”

When i see someone in a really nice car house etc. i think well done youve got your head down and done something with your life.

Unfortunately not everyone is on my wavelength why are people more for success in America than they are here in England.

Thanks in advance and all answers are welcome.

10 points best answer. :)

I think Moz put it best when he said "I hate it when my friends becomes succesful".

But to answer your question: No i dont think USA is different from the UK in being more rich friendly. But Ive noticed being rich in some countries like France and Sweden is a major pain with all the taxes, i dont think the UK is any different, so its bittersweet if you are one to look at the glass half empty.

In the US being rich means less taxes. But thats as much as one could say one is more "success friendly" than the other.

There certainly does seem to be an inordinate amount of rancor in the ranks of the Brits! And your example is very astute, we do say someday we will have that as opposed to being hostile toward the person who has it now. I have also noticed this in the section of royalty with regard to the peerage and the royal family and while I feel both are anachronisms I understand the fondness for tradition in England and that is part of the British charm and a huge part of the tourist draw.

Because british people are door bastards.

Scottish even worse than English to be honest (and I'm Scottish and proud!) haha

maby they're just jealous?
no I don't think they have a hate culture,
that's kinda rude to think that ALL british people think that way
And maby they're just thinking big and they want a limo.
People dream big, its not a crime

Yes, definitely. You only have to see some of the questions and answers on here about royalty and the undisguised envy of someone they perceive to be very rich and have nothing to do. I should like to see them work as hard when they are eighty.
