From my experience in being placed in Special education, I was in an environment where everything was taught slower, and less material was provided to me.
I remember being in the 4th grade, placed in special Ed with other special ed students that were in different levels, and I was taught at a 1st grade level.
By the time I reached High school, my curriculum rate was low and I was almost placed back into 8th grade. My mother fought for me and finally my high school considered taking me. I was still placed in special Ed though, so everything was pretty much the same when I was in grammar school. I wasn't giving the amount of work like most students were, so everything seemed easily.
Now that I'm in my 3rd year of college, I still have difficulty. I was never taught how to write a paper or proper English grammar, so I'm left having to repeat some classes because I was failing behind.
Do you think special education lack the curriculum and academic levels for students who have LD or other disabilities?
