teaching physical wellness or sports? I know it's a stretch in category but public schools are run by the government. And they push sports, especially football really heavily in my area. And kids that want to get in shape get left out if not into sports. Kids are so fat these days, they need to learn proper exercise.
Personally I'm no fan of football. It goes against what I believe about wellness. These guys get into shape and build their bodies up just so they can do an activity that tears up the body and creates lots of problems. A lot of guys have gotten seriously hurt. Over 600 kids have died playing that game. You don't see this in other sports. Not even in the more physical ones. Stuff like weightlifting, swimming, running, baseball, basketball, and even the physical sports like martial arts and wrestling don't tear up the body to the extent that football does.
Bottom line is almost every kid has the ability to improve their quality of life through exercise. A fortunate few are born with the talent to play a sport. Why should the ones who could use some good exercise but aren't cut out for football or basketball sent home to sit on the couch, play X-box, and eat potato chips?
