DO you think parents should buy or help buy their teens first car?

Wondering on peoples thoughts on buying a young teen his first car? Its a couple of years off yet. So don't really know if he will be working or studying at the time. But if we can afford it should we help? Is it better to be a gift or go halves or to give him a loan, or let him take some money out of investments we have for him?

It depends if he wants it, or if he needs it. I know my parents would never buy me a car, because there are two perfectly good ones sitting in the driveway. However, if he needs a car to get to school/work and you only have one for the family that already gets used everyday, I'd probably help him with it. If he's still in school and can take a bus, there's no need for a new car.

It depends on the situation, but I can never see buying a car for a teenager, without them contributing at least half.
