Do you think it's dumb to say, "Out Pointed" instead of "Out Scored" in sports.?

AFL Grand Final Day. Heard Victorian TV commentator say, and I quote, St Kilda has "Out Pointed" Geelong in the third quarter, not "Out Scored' .

Out Pointed means Out Played, not out scored.(St Kilda out played the Cats in the 3rd quarter that's what he would of meant).

The one i hate is 'shot on goal' when it's a shot at goal, that doesn't make sense.
