nice to see some cool answers n ideas rollin on this subject but im say by whatever means like lasers, solar sails,cluster bombs, or nukes to deflect destroy etc
 
Not a "world army", but there would be an advantage to the major scientific powers creating a joint space project to do research, get back to the moon and even look for and deal with potential asteroid collisions. We would want to maintain independent efforts but working together could expand our space efforts while lowering our costs.

Another reason we don't need an "army" for asteroids, we wouldn't really want to blow up asteroids heading towards us, the better idea would be to redirect them. No nuclear bomb on earth could suitably destroy the big asteroids.
