Do you think it is sexist that in Australia one parent OR the other can stay home with

a child? and receive parenting payment, but the couple cannot split the care and work 50/50? My partner stayed home with our son for the first 2 years and now we have swapped, the other parent can get parenting payment. But we cannot share the care by working part-time and staying home the rest, even if the income is equal to one person working. ONE person has to stay home for the couple to be eligible. Since the person staying home can be either male or female, is this sexist or just stupid? I'm not sure if its sexist because it forces one sex to take 100% of the role of the carer (which I am assuming is usually the female). Note: I am not a feminist. Also I am aware that both can work and look after child 50/50 if the couple is willing to sacrifice all parenting payment benefits, but this is not usually possible on two part-time low wage incomes.
