Livin' for Jesus :)

I am fifteen and I started writing a book today about teens and peer pressure. I finished writing Chapter 3 today!
My friend told her family about that and she told me they all laughed. They said, "she can't write a book." It makes me wanna give up on my book I'm working on because of what they said.

When I finish writing my story, do I have to mail to someone? What do I have to do? Does is cost money to get a publisher? My mom says it cost a lot of money to make a book.

People laugh because they think that no one in THEIR ordinary world could do anything grand. Lots of writers, actors, dancers, artists, politicians, doctors, and business moguls have had someone laugh at them when they were starting out.

It only means that THEY couldn't do it.

You've written three chapters of a book! That is impressive! You can certainly be a writer. Getting the words written is a major part of what it takes.

When you are done, you will have to write up a letter saying what your book is about along with an outline and the first 2 - 3 chapters. The chapters must be in manuscript format.

You will need to research which publishers look for books like yours - books for teen audiences, mainsteam stories rather than science fiction or mystery, etc. You'll need to see whether they accept unsolicited manuscripts or want you to go through an agent. Agents also have requirements. You can find this information at your library. Ask for the 2009 Writer's Market, also 2009 Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market and the 2009 Guide to Literary Agents. These books will also explain how to format your manuscript.

If you get published by a regular publishing company, you do not pay to have the book published. Instead, they pay you an advance and then a percent of each copy sold (after they earn back the money they paid you), called royalties.

You can use a self-publisher, and this can cost $10,000. BUT there are also publish-on-demand publishers now, who will print one copy at a time for you. This is a hard thing to do, because then you must market the book yourself. You can't just walk into a bookstore and ask them to sell your book, so it's really better to go through a publishing house.

Since you are fifteen you could prolly get a scholarship thing, I think random house publishing does scholarships for best book written by a teen, and I think if it is good enough it gets published I would try that first

Hi, I'm a writer too. I like writing books about action/adventure and the supernatural. Because I'm only thirteen, I get a lot of mean critique too. People tell me to give up and that chances of my getting published are impossible. But I still right anyways. Partly because I love writing and I write 'cause I enjoy it. But also to prove them wrong. If I writing, I prove their point exactly that I don't have what it takes to write a book. Don't let them get to you. I'm sure you'll be a great writer :) Write for the fun of it, not because you want to please other people.
