Okay, I live in Pennsylvania, I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I am seriously focusing on getting into the University of Texas at Austin (main campus longhorns!). I want to major in journalism and hopefully one day work for either Sports Illustrated, NBC Olympics, or ESPN. If not UT then could I get into Penn State, Lock Haven, New York, Temple, or Shippensburg University?
I currently have a GPA of 3.3 and an overall average of 87%. I am going to try my best to raise my GPA to at least a 3.5 and my overall average to at least 90%.
My high school does not offer any AP classes, but they do offer Honors classes, which I am currently taking History Honors. My school does offer a college English and a college history class during my senior year and I am going to take both of them.
My core classes that I have completed already, including after this year, are…
German I, German II, U.S. History I, U.S. History II Honors, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, General Biology (lab), Physical Science (lab), Comprehensive English 9, Comprehensive English 10, Physical Education 9, Physical Education 10, Health Education 9, Health Education 10, and Journalism I.
I count Journalism I as a core class because it relates to what I want to major in, Journalism.
Other core classes that I will be taking during my junior and senior years are…
Comprehensive English 11, College English, Environmental Science (lab), Basic Chemistry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus (if my high school allows me to double up my senior year.), Global Studies Honors, College History, Physical Education 11, Physical Education 12, Health Education 11, Journalism II, Journalism III, and Broadcast Journalism.
I also have a lot of extra curricular activities I am involved in throughout my high school career, and they are…The numbers indicate the grades I was or will be in there for…
Youth Group (9,10,11,12), Bible Quiz Team (church; 10,11,12), Puppets Team (church; 10,11,12), Teen Ensemble (church; 9,10,11,12), SADD Club (10,11,12), German Club (9), Varsity Wrestling Team Manager (10,11,12), Girls Tennis Team (11,12), Varsity Wrestling Team Student Athletic Trainer (11,12), Varsity Baseball Team Student Athletic Trainer (11,12), and The Rocket Star (school newspaper; Sports Journalism/Sports Columnist).
Also other thing I will be involved in outside of school are than I have an student internship with ESPN during the fall sports season, I will be writing for my states county’s newspaper, and I will be writing for my county’s news station’s. “My High School Playbook,” which is a group of select high school students who write sports stories and then they are posted on the web.
