There has never been a garden of Eden it is a myth . Mankind wants to believe there is or was a place where everything was perfect we put it in the past because we are sure not to find it here.
Think of El Dorado the Spanish Conquistadores were looking for or Xanadu . You can think of Plato's Atlantis and Alice in Wonderland,they are all examples of the same phenomenon.
We just need the idea of the perfect place I suppose it is in our genes from the time man was still struggling against the elements to survive.
Obviously we always have been dreamers.
