Do you think civilization will slip back into a state of barbarism?

Civilization has always been on the brink of barbarism. It's only with the agreement of the people has there been a civil situation. As soon as the majority do their own thing, like most of our youth seems to want, it will all go down the tubes. It obviously has started, and progressed almost past the point of being able to counteract it.

Or, do you think it has already started to slip into such a state?
Terrorism seems to have reached a stage of permanence.
Violent street gangs are well accepted as part of main stream culture.

People in the middle east have been fighting for thousands of years. Street gangs have always been around. Terrorism has just got more sophisticated.

I think such issues are just reported more often by the media.

In my world all is peace.
