on my becoming an atheist, do you think christianity bears some of the blame. i'm not talking about jesus or his teaching, but the religion of christianity, the constant proclamations of faith and all that. i was happy being a christian. it didn't really seem to affect my life that much. i considered myself a decent person, until i really started getting into christianity. then i started hearing things about how all people are evil. i was taught that i had to love something i couldn't see more than i loved my own family. i was told that friends of mine, who didn't believe as i did would burn for all eternity for not believing. after listening, and i mean really listening to all this, i started questioning it. it only makes sense. why would a loving god want me to love anyone more than my own family? why would god consider me evil, when i do my best to help people? why would god punish good people simply because they don't believe in him? questions begot more quesitons...
