And generally in everyday life
Is the ross/brand affair a symptom of a much larger cancer in our country. A lot of tv shows eg x factor, dragons den, that gordon Ramsay programme, Alan sugar etc seem to promote it.
Most shows nowadays seem to have humiliation (however subtle) in some way as part of their popularity
I find Britain is an increasingly negative place to live in - do you

I think you're right to an extent, there has certainly been an increase in the number of shows that seem to be full to the brim with Z-list celebrities willing to stake their dignity on the line to get some more airtime, but I simply choose not to watch these shows. There are still lots of intelligent, entertaining, funny, and thought provoking shows out there, they're just not on ITV :P

You have to remember that although people on TV might be humiliating themselves, 9 times out of 10 they're there by choice, and if it's not by choice then their permission to air is sought before it does.

I've already answered a question on the ross/brand thing, and I said I thought it was all just one big publicity stunt, and in that sense then yes, it is a symptom of the way British entertainment has changed. I don't think it's indicative of British culture in a nutshell though, and have largely avoided the hype it's caused.

With regard to what you say about Britain being a negative place, I tend to believe that life is what you make it. Sure, there's sh*t hurled from all angles, you just have to be nimble to avoid it. There are far worse places we could live, I know that much at least.

biily budd int that an opera or summit anyways through your tv out theres no future in it, it really is like avin an open sewer running through your room and buy a radio thats my view

No this is called real life.

We can not live in a nanny state no longer where everyone is thought of.

Do you think a nanny state got us to the top of the food chain?

Used to be British television was considered the best in the world. PBS in the US brought over many of the excellent British programs ever made such as "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "Poldark."

Now, though, it's like US television brings over the dregs from British television such as "Idol." I don't even bother to watch the BritComs on PBS anymore because they're just as lame as the US shows. "My Hero?" ACK!

No I don't I think they have a wonderful sense of humor. Poeple take things to much to heart and personally when their is no reason to do so. Personally to make fun of ones self and to be able to take it shows good character.
