Having been through all that 40 years ago, I think I might have a better perspective on this. I liked to play sandlot football , baseball, etc. All good stuff. I did O.K. , never left to be the last one picked for teams, so I fit in alright. What loused me up was , I didn't understand what coaches wanted, I didn't get the jock mentality, so I fell down when it came to breaking into high school team sports, in the social sense. If I had a better sense of all that, I could have been on the football or baseball team with no problem. Hell, I had the skill physically, didn't have the social finesse to get me in! So, I was characterized as " not liking sports" , which was not true, I just didn't "get it", socially.I was intrigued by mechanical things , cars, motorcycles, etc., and made my way in that area. Football and baseball, now that I am older, are not "pointless", but sometimes overrated for just the games themselves. Now using the games and getting famous, rich, women, oh yeah! If playing makes it happen for you, good deal! But to listen to stats for stats sake, does get old if it's just babble. But never any "gay issues". Plenty of testosterone in getting horsepower, burning rubber , and gettin' some go fast!
