Mind you are right with 7.1 blu-ray on HD. The sound qulaity from blu-ray 7.1 would be very good. ;)

6.1 on DVD is not that great and i tend to play full bi-amp 5.1 through my system all the time.

The box set arrived. I have not played the DVD, but it looks GREAT! the size is around 3 DVD put together (Thickness)

If you into your DVD collection then this is one to consider and buy. :)
 
The price drop for say my DVD is not important. I just enjoy buying dvd's and watching dvd's.

A price drop affects almost anything you buy, be that a DVD or a Car or Plasma TV it all drops in time..

What i like and enjoy about still having DVD's is the quality from DVD's has improved so much over the last 12 months.
 
DepenRAB on the souce material. If it's a theatrical movie my first option would be the BluRay disc. If it's a TV show that was made in standard definition then DVD is the best option (I hate that Contender slowed Life on Mars down to 24 fps for BluRay release, with jerky end-credits).
 
I still buy DVRAB, bought a few yesterday actually.I like buying a lot of the older films from the 80's and early 90's which I have on VHS on DVD, as well as new releases and TV series box sets.
 
I didnt even know there was a dvd of it.

The Bluray has both versions using seamless branching.

Does the dvd.

The US R1 dvd only had the longer version - and that is still unreleased in the UK after all these years
 
NO it isnt.

I dont know of anyone who would buy a film on BD and say they have bought it on dvd.

Not least of all because Bluray wont play on a dvd player

The term DVD applies to BD not one bit.

DVD was developed by different companies .

Bluray is a Samsung/Sony creation and I dont believe they pay royalties to the dvd creators
 
I'm sticking to dvRAB, can't see the point of paying more for better picture, when dvRAB look fine to me
 
Believe it or not, HD recording was around in the 70's. Most films shown on TV are filmed at a much higher rate

than that offered by to days HD Plasma TV 1080P. It is only a matter of time before more HD contents is offered.

You will read a lot of people saying old movies on TV are just scaled up to 1080i, this is in some cases true,

But a lot of films back in the days, recorded in very High Def picture above 2000 by 2000 and higher!

High Def sound is best played using blu-ray discs in 6.1 or higher. However 5.1 still sounRAB Great! ;) on DVD's
 
This isn't going to stop until you can buy films on microchips.

They could probably do that now if they wanted to, but stretching each pretend 'phase' out across a 3-4 year span before introducing each 'new and reduced' format is infinitely more profitable, especially where a healthy stream of gullible sad idiots obsessed with gadgets and technology is concerned.
 
No- thats the full version.

If you are comparing Bluray or R1 running times remember the PAL speedup on the dvd that will shorten yours by roughly 2 minutes per hour- but its still complete
 
I still buy dvd, I won't buy the special edition versions and I won't buy blurays until the there is a bluray recorder at a reasonable price, I hardy ever buy online and will pay the prices in ASDA because I want the film the day it comes out :)

I buy LOARAB of DVRAB and like you guys they are mainly online for bargain prices but I've never gone in for steelbook versions but the oens I have, I agree, are more pleasing to the eye.

I would only by them if they are cheap.
 
So you want a Bluray recorder at a reasonable price yet you dont mind ripping yourself off by buying from High Street stores instead of online.

Preorder online and not only does the disc arrive on the day of release , more often than not it turns up a couple of days earlier.

Your logic is totally flawed
