...going to college? This question is only intended for those who had college experience, currently in college or graduated from college only please.
I graduated from high school back in 2006. I really had the desire to continue my education. I wanted to attend a community college close by my home and transfer to a university after 2 years. But, at that time I had no idea of figuring out how to pay for my college education. Not only that but I didn't do so well in high school.
So I looked into the direction of the military. I figure if I enlist in the military that I would have them pay for my college education (through the GI Bill) and have some discipline in my life. Something that would probably help me do better if one day I go back to school.
Well, I have been in the United States Navy for a little more than 2 years now. As of right now I kind of regretful that I did not go to college right out of high school. Now that I know about the system of financial aid and scholarship programs that fully pay off college education. I kind of figure that maybe the GI Bill is not necessary (since you have to wait 4 years after your service to start using it). While you can use financial aid and scholarships right away and not have to wait 4 years to use it.
It also makes me regretful that I have a ton of buddies who have graduated from high school the same year as me and are almost done with getting their college degrees and I haven't even come close to being a real student at a college campus.
I just want to know if there is anyone out there who ever considered enlisting in the military at one point in their lives right after their graduation in high school. But, decided to go to college instead for certain circumstances. I also want to know if you ever regretted not enlisting in the military right after high school. But, decided to go to college instead. Please give me a detailed decription of why or why not.
Thank You!
