Do you peck with the stylus or scribble/write out letters?

For Palm users, do you use the stylus and onscreen keyboard, and peck at the letters, or do you write them out with some grafitti program? Which do you prefer? Which is faster? Which is more accurate?

I used to write letters until my digitizer went a bit haywire. I now use MessageEase (no affiliation just a happy user) which is a tap and drag entry system and I must say that I love it! It is easily as fast as grafitti and the bonus of having punctuation marks and other symbols right there on the same screen is a distinct plus. The digitizer still occasionally plays up and gives me gibberish but generally I find it easier than hunt and peck (normally a touch typist so the hunt and peck drives me nuts!). My preference would still be for grafitti but with a half decent digitizer which reliably reads what I write but that is a distant dream I fear!

Interesting question. I have used Palms for eons. I use a custom keyboard which just loads once and then shows up when you hit the keyboard Icon. It is basically the Palm keyboard, but it also has a ten key pad on the side and multiple choices of symbols and foreign letters w/symbols. All that said, I am at the office and it has been so long I cant even recall the name of the keyboard. If you are interested PM me and I will look it up. It has worked on every Palm I can remember, basically it just replaces the Palm on screen keyboard.

Second, very quickly, I got smart and use the PC to enter most of the things that have a lot of data entry. Then it just syncs to the Palm.

Third, and best of all, I have a program from mobilityware.com called TapSmart-KeyLink. With the Palm in the cradle you can use your PC or the Palm interchangeably and visibly on the PC and the Palm screen. It just syncs the two "Live".

I cannot remember when was the last time I used Graffitti at all. Hope this helps. Just remember, free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. But this Forum is the exception to that rule.

TapSmart KeyLink 2.1.4

I haven't used it, but from reading the reviews it has gotten nothing less than stellar remarks!

I am a graffitti person, but mainly just for appointments or short notes. For larger amounts of data I use the cut-and-paste method on my computer via Docs-2-Go or similar apps.

Cheers! M2

A technic that I have recently found to work well for me is to use the Palm's virtual keyboard but use 2 styluses, much like you would use a left and right hand when typing on a normal keyboard. This requires placing the PDA on your lap or some kind of surface. In a pinch I just unscrew the back end of the TX's stylus to use as the second stylus.

Might I suggest a program called TextPlus from www.smartcell.com that automatically fills in the words - and you can customize the list and it "preferences" the choice of words viewed by frequency of use.

As a personal note: I couldn't do this - my hands are too big for me to see the screen with both of them in the way.

As another note: I believe Stylus Central has some "finger tip" stylus' that would allow you to tap with an index finger.....two would even be better?

WOW and double WOW - just bought this application - Tap smart key link - (no affiliation etc etc) and it is fantastic! I have caught up with all my case notes in no time flat. It even beats the fold up keyboard although I really like that too. I am so glad I lashed out - it was easy to set up!

Thanks for the heads up

Angela
