Do you partake in Unashamed Animation Watching?

I use to watch cartoons unapologetically, but as I grew older I found myself hiding or making excuses for why I kept watching them. Has anyone here ever watched them in secret or openly around people?

Regardless of what some people think, animation is for all ages. From toddlers to adults.

I'm open about several animated series I watch, like Adventure Time, Soul Eater, Total Drama series, etc.

If someone condemns you for liking animation, they clearly don't know what they're talking about.

Everyone who knows me or atleast knows anything about me knows I love animation pretty much my whole dvd colection is old cartoons and anime. I barley watch anything on tv thats not animation now adays.

Although there are shows I watch I'd rather not let people who know me in real life know except the friends who also watch the same stuff. Lets just say I would not watch Seikon No Qwaser or Sekirei in front of family or the in the living room where anyone could walk in.

It depends on what the series is. But overall when it comes to watching cartoons, I don't really hide it, especially at college, where I've seen guys between 18-24 watch Pokemon and Arthur.

Heck no, and I live in Navy barracks. Hell, I inspired one guy to download a bunch of Rocko's Modern Life episodes, which he claimed was a favorite of his as a kid, after he saw me watching the show on my computer.

there is nothing to be ashamed of..frankly people who watch those poorly written tweencoms have alot more to be ashamed of then people who watch toons or anime IMPO. (unless all they watch is hentai..then thats pretty shameful..lol.)

I'm sixteen, and my parents think it's weird that I like cartoons. They're stuck in the mind set that cartoons are for the immature, and mindless children

Fffffffff, you kidding? Most of my DVD collection is animation. Not to mention I'm a cartoonist. A quick flip through my sketchbook is quite telling. EVERYONE knows I'm a cartoon nut. XD

I'm a grown-arse man who loves his cartoons, always have been, always will be. And I'm no way ashamed or apologetic about it. Plus, I'm a cartoonist, so I have to stay in the loop.

I'm 20, most of my DVD collection is animation, and I'm an animator as well. I get into a fight with my mother about every two weeks, because she's convinced animation and comics are for little kids. I say "Sure! I'll watch live action then!" and switch to Barney or something equally as childish to prove my point. That's when the yelling starts. She worries about me a lot, and thinks of me as a weirdo. I'm fine with that.

I am 15 years old and I'm pretty open about my love for cartoons, since most of my DVDs are animated shows/films and I own numerous shirts of my favorite series from Hot Topic. I get nice comments from them, too. ("Omg I love that show!") I've seen kids my age wear them too, so yeah...

Only my sisters and mom accepts that I like 'em, heck they'll sit down and watch Disney movies once in a while. My dad and my extended family thinks I'm crazy and they all make fun of me

Here's some advice for those who are made fun of: Tell the person/people, "Adults make cartoons." I do, and that shuts them up everytime :D

I've always thought about that point, but adults make everything. Adults make preschooler toys but you wouldn't see one playing with one (not comparing cartoons to preschooler toys, cartoons are a form of media and don't see why one should have to explain themself for liking it).

I make no excuses for my enjoyment of animated movies or shows, but I've never really had a problem with people calling me names over it or anything like that. It was never a problem with my parents. My mom stills loves the classic Disney movies, and I remember my dad sitting down to watch episodes of B:TAS with me. Even Animaniacs. As recently as a few years ago, we ended up watching almost a full hour of Tom & Jerry together.

No offense, but that kind of strikes me as being a little hypocritical. I wouldn't want somebody saying something like that about my enjoyment of animation, so I would never say that about someone liking tweencoms, or whatever. We all like what we like, and if something makes somebody happy, I say let them enjoy it without trying to insult them for it. But that's just me. :)

I've never really had a problem with people making fun of me for watching cartoons.

I think a good retort to someone like that would be, "Would you let a young child watch South Park or Family Guy?".

I don't feel embarassed around my brother and parents, but I sometimes feel embarassed around people at school. It kind of depends really. Even though I am not in school right now, I wouldn't feel embarassed to talk about seeing Toy Story 3 with anyone there. I would, however, feel uncomfortable brining up Jimmy Two Shoes or something.

I dunno about that, animation is a time-consuming process (whether or not you're a great animator) that people study for years, along with art or art related areas! Also, there are colleges out there that have programs for learning everything about animation...college is a big step in peoples' lives if they choose to go, so if the animation industry is anything to go by, people obviously must have wanted to be a part of it. So yeah.

However you make a good point, results may vary. Again, it worked for me, so I guess the people I know can't come up with a retort :p
