Do you need to Pre-order a game to attend it's midnight release?

I am hoping to get battlefield 3 at it's midnight release but the thing is, is that I haven't Pre-ordered it, will this be a problem?

I live in England. I will attend gamestation

1 more question, if you can't go without a Pre-ordere, is there anywhere that will let you?
