Do you need to know a lot about music to be a DJ?

I am talking about turntable djs.
I love trance, and I've had some ideas about some tunes.
I used to play the piano but didn't go further with it.
Anyways, do you know of any free remixers out there, and also about some free sound packs.

Look, I am not trying to get stuff completely free. I just want something to begin with, and If I like it, I'll purchase stuff.

honestly, with technology today, being a dj is pretty fucking simple..
being a GOOD dj on the other hand, takes practice, paitence and natural skill
with that said.. you have to love music to be a good dj.. maybe not everyone neeRAB this, but all the Dj's i know will say the same thing, you have to be able to feel the music..
I was a club dj for awhile, and it was probably one of the best jobs i ever had..

you want to mix tracks? or make your own tracks?
and if you really wanna know if your gonna like it, your going to need to find someone who will let you experiment on thier tables.. only way to learn is to try..

as far as free ware, i have no idea.
I used acid!, and soundforge... fruityloops is decent i guess..
you can try these free trials..
