My husband loves biking and has been riding to work, participated in short/long-distance races etc. I have my own bike but it's only for going on a light ride on a nice day with him (only biked about 15 times last year).

Now he wants to get a tandem bike because he thinks i would join the longer rides he does (i have complained before that i get tired from long rides (>30 miles) and can't really talk while riding separate bikes, etc). We have rented a cruiser type tandem bike once before, and i was so scared because i couldn't see the front and didn't have any control (my husband is taller/bigger and is stronger so he has to be in the front). We are not considering the cruiser type though; it will be the road bike.

I'd like to ask the people who ride or have ridden tandem bikes as stoker, but have felt the same way i feel first. And, do you like it now? and why?

Tandem bikes are quite expensive, so i want to be little more sure if it will be worth the money.

Thank you so much!

If you didn't like a tandem cruiser chances are you wont like the the tandem road bike anymore. Some people call then divorce bikes and other couples love them. It takes time to get use to not being able to see and you need to lean with the captain. One advantage is that you can take in all the scenery without watching where you are going. I would keep an eye out for a good used bike, that way if you don't like it you can sell it.
